DESCRIPTION
HWA Engineering Speed created one of the most important stories of the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours. The HWA EVO.R was not just another race car on the grid. It was a modern racing prototype inspired by the legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II, built by HWA to connect DTM heritage with present-day endurance racing technology. For HWA, the project marked a return to deep Nürburgring roots. The company’s history is tied to Mercedes performance engineering, DTM success and the legacy of AMG, including the famous 1972 Nürburgring 24H entry with the Mercedes 300 SEL 6.5 “Rote Sau”. With the EVO.R, HWA opened a new chapter: a purpose-built SP-X car developed specifically for the demands of the Nordschleife. The team entered three HWA EVO.R cars in the race. The leading #61 car, driven by Adam Adelson, Lance David Arnold, Jamie Green and Renger van der Zande, finished P48 overall and P2 in SP-X with a best lap of 8:42.124 and an average speed of 137.663 kph. The #62 sister car finished P72 overall and P3 in SP-X, while the #63 completed the team result with P98 overall and P4 in SP-X. What made this entry special was not only the result, but the idea behind it. The HWA EVO.R carried the visual memory of the 190E Evo II into a modern endurance prototype, with aggressive aerodynamics, wide bodywork, modern engineering and a front-mid-engine transaxle concept. In a race dominated by GT3 machinery, the EVO.R stood out as something different: part tribute, part engineering statement, part future customer race car. The Nürburgring 24 Hours is brutal on new projects, yet all three HWA EVO.R cars reached the finish. For a debut programme, that matters. The #61, #62 and #63 cars proved that the concept was not only beautiful and nostalgic, but also capable of surviving 24 hours in the Green Hell. This gallery captures one of the rare cases where motorsport history, engineering ambition and fan emotion met on the same piece of asphalt.
