DESCRIPTION: Scherer Sport PHX brought one of the most serious Audi entries to the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours. The #16 Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II, driven by Christopher Haase, Alexander Sims and Ben Green, arrived at the main race with real momentum. The team had already won the Sunday race at the 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers, where Haase and Max Verstappen produced one of the standout duels of the build-up to the 24-hour classic. That made Scherer Sport PHX one of the most important reference points for the Verstappen Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3. This was not just another SP9 entry. It was the Audi that had already beaten the field in preparation, had the pace to fight at the front and carried the confidence of a proven Nürburgring-winning organisation. The pace continued into the main event. Christopher Haase secured P3 in Top Qualifying 3, placing the #16 Audi on the second row of the grid and directly ahead of the Verstappen Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3. In the early phase of the race, Scherer Sport PHX stayed inside the leading group and looked ready to become one of the central players in the overall victory fight. But the Nürburgring 24 Hours changed the story quickly. In the third hour, Alexander Sims was caught in a confusing sequence of flag signals around Pflanzgarten. A double yellow, a green flag and then a Code 60 zone created a chain-reaction situation with limited visibility. Sims could not avoid contact, and the Audi R8 LMS suffered front chassis damage that could not be repaired trackside. After only 16 laps, Scherer Sport PHX had to retire from the race. With a best lap of 8:13.543 and an average speed of 161.177 kph, the final classification does not show the full strength of the #16 Audi. The car had the speed, the driver lineup and the preparation to challenge at the front. Instead, Scherer Sport PHX became one of the early heartbreak stories of the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours: a serious contender, stopped before it could show its full race distance potential.
