DESCRIPTION
KCMG entered the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours with one of the most serious international GT3 efforts on the grid. The Hong Kong-based team returned to the Green Hell with the #47 Mercedes-AMG GT3, driven by David Pittard, Jesse Krohn, Nirei Fukuzumi and Naoya Gamou. Pittard and Krohn already had Nürburgring 24H winning experience, while Fukuzumi and Gamou added strong Japanese racing talent to the programme. KCMG had shown promising pace during its preparation, including a pole position and a best finish of fourth in NLS competition before the 24-hour race. The speed was there from the beginning. The #47 Mercedes-AMG GT3 recorded a best lap of 8:13.404 and an average speed of 170.375 kph, showing that KCMG had the pace to be part of the SP9 fight. But the Nürburgring 24 Hours can destroy a strong race before it properly begins. After only 15 laps, the KCMG Mercedes was involved in a collision with the #16 Scherer PHX Audi R8, forcing both cars out of the race. The official race report later noted that there had been confusion around Code 60 signalling in the area and that no penalties were given to the drivers involved. For KCMG, the final result does not reflect the potential of the programme. The car had speed, the driver lineup had experience, and the team came into the event with real preparation behind it. But at the Nürburgring, pace alone is never enough. The #47 Mercedes-AMG GT3 became one of the early heartbreak stories of the 2026 race: fast, serious and competitive, but taken out before it had the chance to show its full 24-hour strength.
